After winning regionals and ranking fourth in State for the 2016–17 school year, the girls golf team is optimistic about the upcoming season. Their first tournament, the Aguila Invitational on Sept. 7, highlighted how prepared they are for the season.
“So far, we have already exceeded expectations. At the Aguila Invitational, we ended up placing second, right behind the number one team in the state, Xavier High School,” senior Kendall McBean said. “Before the invitational, we were ranked fifth, but we beat all those teams and now we’re ranked second. We’re doing a lot better this year and that’s because our top five is a lot more solid than last year.”
The head coach of the girls golf team, Coach Kain, has high hopes for this season.
“Our main goal is to rank in the top three of state. That’s where we were last year, and we want to make sure we get back to that same area,” Coach Kain said. “We’re doing really well this season. So far, we’re already number four in the state—it’s looking really good.”
