There are a variety of resources for students to utilize on campus that are designed to help them succeed. Whether they need help with an academic class or with deciding a career path, there are several students and staff available to assist them.
“Tutoring is offered Tuesdays and Thursdays before school and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday after school. There’s tutoring for every subject, math being the most popular, but you can get help with anything from world languages to science,” senior and National Honor Society (NHS) tutor Lauren Hardy said. “Students can go to the Commons and there will be Mesa Community College (MCC) tutors, NHS tutors and teachers to help with homework.
The College and Career Center is another resource located inside the Commons where students can obtain information about scholarships and universities.
“We can meet individually to discuss college plans, FAFSA Workshops, scholarships and college applications,” College & Career Advisor Ms. Rusnak said. “Freshmen and sophomores should look to develop their leadership skills as well as service learning—those two qualities will help when they are looking for scholarships junior and senior year.”
This year Red Mountain is providing an additional college resource for students; an advisor from MCC will be available in the Commons to help students with the college enrollment process as well as answer any questions they may have.
“There are lots of things that I help students with. The first couple of things are dual and concurrent enrollment,” MCC Advisor Ms. Inorio said. “I also help students who know that they want to go to MCC after they graduate and students who have no idea what they want to do. Giving students access to early college and helping them be successful in college is my goal here on campus.”
As a beneficial resource for juniors and seniors, the MCC advisor will prepare students for their college application process by providing them with valuable information and by counseling them along the way.
For more information, stop by the Commons for tutoring (Tuesdays and Thursdays before school, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday after school), visit the Career Center from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or visit Ms. Inorio’s office located next to the Change Exchange in the Commons.
