Fun Summer Activities

“My favorite summer memory was when my best friend and I went to Costa Rica together. I liked it because it was my first time travelling alone, and it was so much better because my friend was there. We just had a really fun time. When there, we went hiking on volcanoes, ziplining, went to the beach and learned about the culture there.”

As the summer season rapidly approaches, students are already making plans. Some students are spending their summer travelling, preparing for college and visiting large attractions.

“My favorite summer memory was when my best friend and I went to Costa Rica together. I liked it because it was my first time travelling alone, and it was so much better because my friend was there,” senior Diana Kwiatkowski said. “We just had a really fun time. When there, we went hiking on volcanoes, ziplining, went to the beach and learned about the culture there.”

Some students find themselves taking the time to visit colleges and plan for their future. This can include summer learning programs, internships and camps.

“For the summer, I’m going to be spending a lot of time preparing for my college applications in the fall,” junior Mia Ramos said. “I’ve been captivated by Stanford since the sixth grade, so I’m very excited to finally see the campus.”

Other students spend the summer meeting up with friends to go to conventions or other activities in Phoenix such as the Phoenix Comicon in late May.

“I go to the Phoenix Comicon every year because I’m into many different genres of things like anime, comic books, movies and superheroes. My friends and I also dress up to go,” junior Johanna Contryman said. “I make the costumes and we always get a lot of compliments. It’s a fun place filled with people with similar interests as me, and I would highly recommend going because it is a great experience.”

Some summer ideas include volunteering, heading to the lake with some friends, taking up a new hobby, finding a new show to watch on Netflix or relaxing by the pool. Some places to go to cool off are Sunsplash, Arizona Grand Waterparks and Big Surf. Other ideas include the Butterfly Wonderland, OdySea Mirror Maze or the OdySea Aquarium.
